Catalogue accompanying Karin Jones’s exhibition Ornament & Instrument, a survey of Jones’s meticulous and deeply researched work in which she uses materials of the body and the land — hair, metal, cotton, wood, glass, pearl — to explore the instumentalized and internalized notions of Whiteness and European beauty standards that particulary operate upon racialized women. Jones’s re-imagined figures of Victorine and Odalisque were re-drawn so they could be foil-stamped on the front and back cover of the catalogue, in silver and gold.
