SAG Surrey Seen
2005
On the occasion of the Surrey Art Gallery’s 30th anniversary, the gallery undertook Surrey Seen, a series of exhibitions and events to explore and acknowledge the city in a more complex way, inviting artists and writers to create new works on the changing social and geographical landscapes of Surrey.
The invitation/brochure had a daunting amount of text and no imagery to work with (the artwork was being created as the exhibition was being organized). The solution relied on layering the words: Surrey Now, Surrey New and Surrey Next over the exhibition title Surrey Seen, as a way to both organize the content — exhibitions (Now), readings and roundtables (New) and family events (Next) — and to create a sense of the immediacy about the exhibition.
