Home Owners’ Journal
Whitecap 2004
Journals would seem easy to design - not so many words, lots of grids and lines - but in fact, they are surprisingly tricky. The intention of this journal is hyper-organization, so the design must be ultra-clear and friendly to any viewer, not just make sense to the designer who sorted it all out. In designing this project, I tried to be Dutch, the masters of bold, graphic utility. A system of icons was developed and introduced in the table of contents because there is repetition of content between chapters; both Interior and Exterior have electrical and plumbing sections for instance. The icons act as quick visual cues, reinforcing the running heads.
