Saving Our Global Heritage
Global Heritage Fund 2004
Global Heritage Fund (GHF) is a non-profit international conservancy which protects and preserves important cultural heritage sites, ancient townscapes and major archaeological sites threatened by neglect, destruction, mass tourism and unplanned urban sprawl in developing countries.
GHF’s goal was to make the threats to these sites explicit and clarify their methodology for preservation. We chose to balance the heat of this message of destruction with a cooler visual approach, using a single photograph - a buddha head squeezed by the roots of a tree to graphically illustrate the sometimes unexpected sources of stress for these sites.
The book was an enormous undertaking. Regional maps and the timelines of 84 endangered sites were presented. The world regions were colour-coded to easily situate the sites and to ground the text for each photograph.
